Privacy policy

This page is short on purpose. It covers accounts, the photos you plate-solve and the public gallery.

Accounts

Accounts are for adults (18 and over) and use Google sign-in. We keep your Google subject id, display name and profile email, and a session cookie that keeps you signed in. We ask for nothing else.

Photos you solve

A photo you upload is sent to our plate solver to find where the sky is pointing. If it is not published it is not stored: only the solve result is cached for 24 hours, with no link to you. Photos fetched from a web address are never published.

The public gallery

If you are signed in, a photo you solve is published in the public gallery unless you tick "Do not publish my image to the public gallery" before you upload. Solves without an account are never published.

What the gallery shows

The picture (re-encoded, so GPS, camera and other EXIF data are removed), the solve result (where it points, field of view, stars and constellations) and the nickname you typed, if any. Never your account name, email, location, camera model or capture time.

Opting out, deleting and keeping time

Tick the box before you upload to keep a solve private. Later you can remove any of your pictures with its Delete button; the image and the solve are then erased. Pictures stay until you or a moderator delete them.

Reports and moderation

Anyone can report a picture. When three different people report it, it is hidden until a moderator has reviewed it; the moderator then restores or deletes it.

Takedown and contact

To have a picture removed, use its Report button, or write to [email protected] with the address of the picture. We remove infringing or private content promptly.
